Frequently Asked Questions
Anywhere in the world, the maths topics being taught are the same (e.g. Fraction, Decimal, etc.). It is the approach in teaching these topics that is different.
Singapore Maths places big emphasis in Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract approach to promote deep conceptual understanding. That means, instead of just spoon-feeding students with information or giving them formulae to memorize, they are given learning opportunities so they could explore concepts and derive generalizations accordingly. This way, they are able to make sense of all the new things they have learned, and they are able to retain new information better.

How is MSI different from Kumon
and Eye Level?
The ideal age to start with the programme is 6 years old (Grade 1 level). This is to ensure that the child can sit for the whole duration of the session, and that he/ she already has basic Math skills such as rote counting, recognizing and writing numbers to 10 to be able to cope with the class.

What is the minimum age
requirement?
MSI offers tutorial and enrichment programmes. Tutorial programme is recommended for students who need assistance with school work and in reviewing for examinations. We have tutorial services for all grade school subjects or for Math only.

For students who wish to further stretch their Maths skills, they may enroll in our enrichment programme for Singapore Maths.

How is MSI different from other
Singapore Maths centers?
We conduct WEEKLY training for our teachers to ensure that we continually improve on our teaching skills and best practices.

As much as possible, all work will be completed in the Centre. However, the teacher may occasionally give homework especially during exam period or as requested by the parent/ guardian.
Each session is 1 hour long. However, our instructors may recommend duration of 2 hours (or more) as we may deem necessary.

Duration of 2 hours and above is only recommended for students 7 years old and above.
